Keeping Up With Style in NYC

Before I start this blog, I want to say that you absolutely do not have to look like or wear what other people are wearing in this city. NYC is so big and diverse that honestly, that you can wear whatever the hell you want and no one will care. You can basically be naked (probably only in Times Square) and people wouldn’t say anything.

So before you go out and buy a bunch of things to keep up with the trends that are happening right now, remember that individuality is key. You totally don’t need to follow every trend. Honestly, it would run you broke.

Now if you do find yourself loving trendy clothes or the runway style in NYC, don’t worry. They don’t call me The Affordable Queen for nothing. I’m going to tell you how to keep up with the impossible changing style in NYC.

Buy Timeless Pieces

You can shop cheap, trendy pieces and save money but ultimately, you’ll be wasting your money when the trend dies down. Or you can spend just a bit more on something that will always be trendy. Timeless pieces such as classic black dresses or trousers will always be in style. Go to your favorite store and see what they have that you’ve seen look like pieces from last year’s collection. You might be surprised by what you find.

Shop Secondhand

I’m going to say this one time and one time only. DON’T BE A SNOB! It’s perfectly fine to shop at Goodwill or your neighborhood thrift shop. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You can get some amazing clothes from thrifting. Remember, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure.

Focus on Shoes

If you’re going trendy, focus on shoes. Shoe trends tend to last a lot longer because it costs more to make them. You’ll definitely spend more on shoes, but you’ll get more bang for your buck. I keep my shoes for years and always go back to them when I need to switch up my look; and honestly, I’m pretty sure my shoes from college are still in style.

Remember that you control what you believe is stylish. Individuality is definitely celebrated in NYC. If you’re not in NYC, don’t be afraid to look different. That’s what’s going to take you farther than everyone else.
